Hello! I'm Mrs. Turner :)
Hi! My name is Ashley Turner and I am thrilled to be your child’s second grade teacher! It is going to be a fun year full of learning and new adventures and I cannot wait to see what the year has in store for us. I want to know ALL about you, but first I’m going to tell you a few things about me.
I grew up in Antioch and I live there now with my husband and our 20-month old son. In 2013, I married my sweet husband, Andy. We were blessed with our beautiful baby boy, Finn Michael, in January of 2015. I am the oldest of FIVE siblings. In addition to teaching, I am passionate about cooking, boating, reading, snowmobiling, golfing and visiting our family cabin up north.
This will be my fourth year teaching second grade but my first year at Adler Park and I couldn't be more excited! I graduated from Roosevelt University in Chicago with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a minor in Spanish and endorsements in ESL (English as a Second Language), Spanish, Science and Reading. I have worked in a pre-school for 7 years! I have also taught a year in Kindergarten, however my heart truly belongs in second grade! I love look forward to being a part of the District 70 community.
My teaching career has been geared toward the empowerment of child development and education. I have a strong passion to educate young minds and create a love for life-long learning. I have vast experience working with children varying from coaching gymnastics, private tutoring, daycare, teacher trainings, curriculum writing, preschool, and five years in elementary education.
Through my experiences I remain sensitive to students’ unique capabilities and strive to provide differentiated instruction. My teaching style is a child-centered approach of hands-on learning through balanced literacy and math workshops, Whole Brain Teaching, centers, technology, manipulatives and anything that facilitates the desire for students to explore and be fully engaged in the learning process.
I firmly believe that every child is entitled to an enriching education, respect and professionalism. My goal is to motivate your child in ascertaining their inner strengths, abilities and the activities that truly inspire them. I aim to provide a stimulating learning environment that fosters confidence and encourages your child to reach their full potential. I take the responsibility of an educator very seriously and my number one priority is getting to know your child both emotionally and academically.
I am looking forward to spending the next year learning and growing with you.
Educationally Yours,
Ashley Turner
